Acton SNAP

Planning and Acting for a Greener Acton

The Acton Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP) is a plan being developed with your community to make Fairy Lake, Black Creek and the surrounding neighbourhood healthier and ready for a changing climate.

Your Neighbourhood Action Plan

The Action Plan was developed through a collaboration amongst:

  • Credit Valley Conservation (CVC)
  • Town of Halton Hills
  • Halton Region
  • Local residents, businesses, community groups and partners and local leaders

The action-oriented plan addresses local environmental opportunities and community interests rooted in science.  It advances the sustainability objectives of project partners at the neighbourhood scale, including the Town of Halton Hills’ Fairy Lake Water Quality Study (2023) and Climate Change Adaptation Plan (2020), Halton Region’s Total Phosphorus Offset Strategy (2016) and CVC’s Black Creek Subwatershed Study amplifies local programs in a targeted way.

The plan was endorsed by the CVC’s Board of Directors and Town of Halton Hills Council in March 2026.

Key Features of the Plan

The Action Plan is centered around a collective, forward-thinking vision for Acton, created in collaboration with the community and project partners. Reflecting their strong commitment to the community and its future, more than 870 Acton residents, along with representatives from local businesses, institutions, organizations and agencies, contributed to the development of this plan.

Acton is a welcoming community committed to protecting Fairy Lake and local ecosystems, fostering a climate-resilient, sustainable future where people and nature thrive.

The goals of the SNAP include:

  • Thriving Fairy Lake, Black Creek and Bovis Creek
  • Greener Homes, Businesses and Institutions
  • Welcoming Parks, Sustainable Green Spaces and Streets
  • Connected Communities Caring for Nature

The SNAP focuses on four overarching priorities and enhancements for:

  • Stewardship of natural areas
  • Sustainable actions on private properties
  • Improving green spaces for nature and recreation
  • Robust community engagement

The Plan outlines 22 recommended actions focused on key priorities such as stewardship of natural areas, sustainable practices on private properties and strong community engagement.

Early actions are underway with many residents, community groups, organizations and businesses working together to build momentum and drive meaningful change.

The Plan also provides a framework for measuring progress and shared success.
