Acton SNAP

Planning and Acting for a Greener Acton

The Acton Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP) is a plan being developed with your community to make Fairy Lake, Black Creek and the surrounding neighbourhood healthier and ready for a changing climate.

Your Neighbourhood Action Plan

The Action Plan will be developed in 2025 in collaboration with:

  • Local residents, businesses, community groups and partners and local leaders
  • Credit Valley Conservation (CVC)
  • Town of Halton Hills
  • Halton Region

In 2020, CVC completed the Black Creek Subwatershed Study with Halton Region and other stakeholders. The study examined the subwatershed’s natural features and water resources, outlining goals and strategies for their long-term management. Based on a prioritization activity completed by CVC and through discussions with Halton Region and Town of Halton Hills staff, the development and implementation of a SNAP was selected to accelerate action in the subwatershed.

Ways to Get Involved

Community engagement for the project will begin in the summer of 2025. If you live, work or play in Acton, we want to hear from you! See our list of upcoming events for opportunities to get involved:

  • August to September: Public Survey
  • September: Public Open House

About Acton

The Acton SNAP focuses on a historic community in northwest Halton Hills through which Black Creek flows.  The area features a mix of heritage homes, newer subdivisions and local businesses centered around Mill Street and Highway 7.

A walkable downtown and GO Transit access are complemented by natural features like Fairy Lake, Prospect Park, and nearby conservation areas. Located within the Credit River watershed and near the Niagara Escarpment and Bruce Trail, Acton offers a rare blend of urban living near nature and the countryside. Its proximity to the Greenbelt supports a lifestyle rooted in environmental stewardship and sustainable growth.

The Acton SNAP area includes:

  • Residential properties
  • Commercial areas
  • Schools
  • Places of worship
  • Neighbourhood parks and gardens
  • Community gathering spaces
  • Natural areas and community assets that we can protect and enhance
  • A lively and active community ready to engage in climate action
  • Many opportunities for environmental restoration and retrofit
