Credit Valley Conservation’s Updated Regulations Mapping Approved

March 9, 2026 – At the February 20, 2026, Board of Directors Meeting, Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) Board of Directors approved the updated regulations mapping for the Credit River Watershed. This mapping conforms to requirements under the Conservation Authorities Act and Ontario Regulation 41/24.

CVC has a provincially delegated responsibility to regulate development in areas subject to natural hazards in order to avoid and prevent the loss of life and damage to property due to flooding and erosion.

Regulation Mapping is a tool that shows where natural hazards such as flooding and erosion can occur in the Credit River Watershed. Properties located in a regulated area may require approval (a permit) from CVC before starting a project. You can learn more about activities that may require a permit at cvc.ca/planning.

Before the approval, CVC undertook a comprehensive consultation process including making the draft updated mapping available for online public review. We also reached out to watershed stakeholders including politicians, municipal partners and agencies, and BILD (Building Industry and Land Development Association).

As a result of the regulations mapping update project, the overall regulated area in CVC’s watershed was reduced by about 14.9 per cent with 28,687 hectares regulated compared to 33,710 hectares in the last comprehensive update in 2012.

Residents and landowners in the Credit River Watershed are encouraged to review CVC’s newly approved updated regulation mapping available online on CVC’s Regulation Mapping Viewer at cvc.ca/RegulationMapping.
