Credit Valley Conservation Reminds Anglers Conservation Areas are Closed

MISSISSAUGA (April 20, 2020) – To protect visitor and staff safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is reminding anglers that all conservation areas and trails are closed. No members of the public may use or enter CVC conservation properties either by wading in the water or following trails to access rivers, streams and ponds.

“We continue to take steps to help stop the spread of COVID-19,” said Terri LeRoux, Senior Manager, Property, Asset, Recreation and Conservation Area Services for CVC. “As we get closer to opening dates for fishing season, we remind the public our parks remain closed for all activities, including fishing.”

Full closures apply to Belfountain, Island Lake, Terra Cotta, Rattray Marsh, Meadowvale, Limehouse, Silver Creek, Upper Credit Conservation Areas and the Cheltenham Badlands. They also include Ken Whillans Resource Management Area, the Elora Cataract Trailway and all other CVC-owned or operated properties and trails.

CVC asks that community members obey all posted notices, parking signs and locked gates or entrances. CVC staff continue to actively monitor properties and trails for compliance during the closure. Authorized staff will issue tickets for trespassing and parking violations.

Anglers are encouraged to connect with individual municipalities on the status of their parks.

Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is a local conservation authority established by the Ontario government in 1954 to protect, restore and enhance the natural environment of the Credit River Watershed. Our watershed is defined by the area of land where all rainfall, snowmelt and runoff drain into lands and waters flowing into the Credit River. CVC creates connections between people and nature, knowledge and action. We inspire a deep appreciation for the role of nature in keeping people connected, healthy and happy. CVC is a member of Conservation Ontario.
