Credit Valley Conservation Makes Nature More Accessible at Terra Cotta Conservation Area

Nature just became more accessible at Terra Cotta Conservation Area thanks to Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) and Novo Nordisk Canada. The two organizations teamed up to build phase one of a wheelchair accessible pollinator garden at the park that will create an inviting space for all visitors to enjoy. Phase two of the project is scheduled for 2026 and will include sensory tactile elements so visitors can interact with the garden in different ways.

“We are grateful to Novo Nordisk Canada and their staff for their support,” said Bill Lidster, Manager, Conservation Areas at CVC. “Together, we have built a new pollinator garden that will provide a wheelchair accessible space at Terra Cotta Conservation Area for everyone to enjoy. The new garden also enhances the Tales on the Trail experience along the Wetland Trail.”

Novo Nordisk Canada sponsored the pollinator garden project with a contribution of $18,000 and 18 members of their staff joined CVC to help build and plant the garden. This new garden is located by the park’s wetland and features six vibrant garden plots filled with native species. Volunteers planted 700 plants and the species were selected to attract a variety of pollinators. The garden features a raised flower bed for wheelchair accessibility, durable armor stone seating and interpretive signage.

”Collaborating on the development of this garden reinforces Novo Nordisk Canada’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship,” said Vince Lamanna, President, Novo Nordisk Canada Inc. “I’m proud we’re bringing accessible outdoor spaces to life as we work to drive change for a healthier Canada.”

The new pollinator garden will also provide an important space to support pollinators at the park. Pollinators play an important role in sustaining our ecosystems and our food supply by transferring pollen to support plant reproduction.

Funding received from Novo Nordisk Canada will support the development and installation of the sensory components in 2026. Auditory and tactile signage will be added to help visitors of all abilities interact with the garden in additional ways.

CVC is a member of Conservation Ontario.
