Credit Valley Conservation and Trees for Life Partner to Plant 24,000 Trees Across the Watershed

Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is strengthening local climate resilience and community well-being through a new partnership with Trees for Life (TFL), made possible with support from the Government of Canada’s 2 Billion Trees Program (2BTP).

The partnership will support the planting and maintenance of approximately 24,000 native trees and shrubs across the Credit River Watershed, about 8,000 trees each year.

The initiative will focus on planting the right trees in the right places, prioritizing suitable sites in suburban and greenbelt areas, increasing biodiversity, and monitoring tree health to ensure high survival rates.

“This partnership supports CVC’s commitment to protecting, restoring, and enhancing the natural environment while helping communities adapt to climate change,” said Aaron Day, Program Manager, Forestry at CVC. “By working with Trees for Life, we’re making long-term investments in a healthy watershed that provides cleaner air, carbon sequestration, habitat, and stronger, more resilient landscapes.”

“Partnerships like this are vital to building greener, healthier and more resilient communities,” said Marina Dimitriadis, Executive Director, Trees for Life. “By working together, we’re able to amplify our impact and plant exponentially more trees, creating healthier ecosystems and delivering lasting benefits to the communities we serve.” Trees for Life is delivering funding through the federal 2 Billion Trees Program, administered by Natural Resources Canada, to help accelerate tree planting efforts in Southern Ontario. As a planting partner, CVC will plan and manage projects, select appropriate native species, secure planting sites, and conduct ongoing monitoring and maintenance.

Over the three-year term, the project represents a total investment of more than $1.3 million, including federal funding, partner cash contributions, and in-kind support. Follow-up assessments and maintenance will take place each year to support successful establishment and long-term survival.

Tree planting through this partnership will contribute to a more resilient watershed by:
• Increasing forest cover in suburban and greenbelt areas of the watershed
• Supporting native biodiversity
• Improving soil stability and water quality
• Helping mitigate and adapt to climate change

CVC will continue to work with partners, municipalities and landowners to identify suitable sites and deliver planting projects that provide lasting environmental and community benefits.

About Credit Valley Conservation
Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is a local conservation authority established by the Ontario government in 1954 to protect, restore and enhance the natural environment of the Credit River Watershed. Our watershed is defined by the area of land where all rainfall, snowmelt and runoff drain into lands and waters flowing into the Credit River. CVC creates connections between people and nature, knowledge and action. We inspire a deep appreciation for the role of nature in keeping people connected, healthy and happy. CVC is a member of Conservation Ontario.
