February 5, 2026 – Town of Halton Hills and Halton Region Council member Mayor Ann Lawlor was appointed Interim Chair of Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) at the inaugural 2026 board meeting held Friday, January 16. She has been a member of CVC’s Board of Directors since January 2019.
“I am grateful to our Board members for their continued confidence. Having served as vice chair, I’m inspired by the work we’ve accomplished together,” said Mayor Lawlor. “Our commitment to a resilient Credit River Watershed remains unwavering. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues and our dedicated staff as we continue delivering vital services from flood hazard monitoring and response to more extreme weather, water quality protection, and managing conservation lands.”
Mayor Lawlor has served as Mayor and Halton Regional Councillor since October 2022 after being elected for three terms as Ward 4 Councillor starting in 2010.
The CVC Board of Directors also appointed Brampton and Peel Regional Councillor Michael Palleschi as Interim Vice-Chair. He has been a member of CVC’s Board of Directors since 2015.
The interim appointments followed a request from the CVC Board of Directors to the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks for an exemption under s.17(1.3)(a) of the Conservation Authorities Act to allow up to three consecutive one-year terms for the Chair. The current limit is set at two one-year terms.
The Board has deferred the election of officers until a response to this exemption request is received from the Minister.
The CVC board consists of 12 municipal representatives from participating municipalities within the Credit River Watershed. This year’s Board of Directors includes returning members from municipal councils throughout the watershed:
- Tom Adams, Town of Oakville
- Dipika Damerla, City of Mississauga
