Acton SNAP: Get Involved in Shaping a Greener Community

August 20, 2025 – Credit Valley Conservation (CVC), the Town of Halton Hills and Halton Region are seeking community input on the development of the Acton Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP)—a local plan to help make Acton more sustainable, ready for a changing climate and improve the health of Black Creek, Fairy Lake and nearby neighbourhoods.

Funded by Halton Region and led by CVC in collaboration with the Town, the Region, residents and community leaders, the Acton SNAP addresses local priorities, responds to community interests and identifies key projects that support a shared neighbourhood vision. This collaborative, action-oriented plan is part of the Fairy Lake Revival initiative and will help implement recommendations from CVC’s Black Creek Subwatershed Study and the Region’s Total Phosphorus Offset Strategy for the Acton Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The Acton SNAP is CVC’s fourth SNAP initiative in the Credit River Watershed and the second in Halton Hills, building on the success of the Hungry Hollow SNAP in Georgetown. Reflecting the area’s unique blend of urban and rural living, CVC offers additional programs tailored for rural residential and agricultural properties.

“I am delighted that Credit Valley Conservation outdoor education staff will be on the ground in Acton to help residents, businesses and the Town improve our natural environment. From deliberately shaping and planting our gardens to reducing our pesticide use, to joining a volunteer crew eliminating invasive phragmites, we can each make a difference,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “Acton SNAP staff will show us how and we’ll feel great about it, too!”

“Halton Region is proud to partner with Credit Valley Conservation and the Town of Halton Hills on the Acton SNAP initiative, which supports meaningful engagement with residents and our collective efforts to enhance the water resources and natural heritage systems of Black Creek and Fairy Lake,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “Protecting our environment is a shared responsibility and the development of this plan in alignment with other strategic projects, including the Region’s Total Phosphorus Offset Strategy for the Acton Wastewater Treatment Plant, will support a sustainable community for years to come.”

The Acton SNAP presents exciting opportunities for local collaboration, environmental restoration and sustainable neighbourhood improvements that reflect the community’s values for the future. “We’re excited to hear from the community. Whether it’s feedback on the proposed actions or ideas for getting involved, your voice is essential in shaping a greener, more connected future for Acton,” said Keren Bromberg, Senior Coordinator, Sustainable Neighbourhoods at CVC.
