“At Credit Valley Conservation, I find meaningful fulfillment in connecting community action with climate solutions at the neighbourhood level. Through the Sustainable Neighbourhoods team, I’ve worked with residents, businesses, and municipal partners to turn complex climate challenges into practical, place-based initiatives.

A highlight has been supporting neighbourhood workshops and collaborative planning sessions, as it creates space for community voices and allows their input to directly inform projects on the ground. With strong support from my team, mentorship programs, and leadership, I’ve grown professionally by leading multi-stakeholder work, communicating technical ideas clearly, and contributing to more resilient, connected communities.”

— Shahrzad Gharabaghi, MES, Senior Coordinator, Sustainable Neighbourhoods

Working as a planner at Credit Valley Conservation has provided me with the opportunity to help shape how communities grow in a way that respects natural systems and protects people and property. I am part of a team of passionate, knowledgeable professionals working collaboratively to balance growth with environmental stewardship and public safety. Together we create a workplace that is supportive and purpose-driven where our solution-oriented mindset makes a real impact on the communities we serve and that’s incredibly rewarding!

— Maricris Marinas, M.Sc., Senior Planner, Planning and Policy, Watershed Management and Development Services

Working with CVC has been an absolute delight over the last 6 years. It has challenged me but paid off in recognition and gratification. Working with various teams across the organization has taught me the value in collaboration and the willingness for every staff member always eager to help is the icing on the cake.

I have had the chance to lead the project for upgrading our phone system which had a big impact allowing users to have a soft phone on their laptops that replaced having a physical desk phone. I have had many different opportunities including supervising and mentoring level 1 staff, being part of the social committee, and hosting lunch and learns. All in all, coming to CVC was the best career decision I have ever made.

— Michael Gibbs, Senior Specialist, Security and Network Administrator

What I value most about working at CVC is the genuine feeling of being part of a supportive team that works together toward shared goals. Everyone is deeply passionate about protecting the environment, with a strong collective commitment to building a healthier watershed and helping communities become more resilient to climate change.

In my role, I support organization-wide communications and marketing campaigns that help turn complex initiatives into clear, engaging messages. Because CVC provides me with the opportunity to stay current with evolving marketing strategies and tools, I’m able to continuously strengthen how we share our work, tell our stories and connect with our neighbours and partners.

— Dawn Cripps, Supervisor, Marketing and Communications

Four years ago, I could not have expected that my first job out of university would present me with the opportunities for growth that I have received at Credit Valley Conservation. Through my work, I have contributed to innovation in stormwater management, like the Smart Blue Roof Project. By sharing our work with industry peers and the public, I have also taken valuable steps in my journey toward becoming a more confident public speaker. A stronger start to my career could not have happened anywhere else.

— James Cowan, Engineer, Flood Forecasting and Water Management

I have worked for CVC for nearly 10 years. I started as a customer service representative, have held various positions at numerous CVC parks, and now hold a supervisory role. I have had the pleasure of collaborating with a supportive team who overcome challenges and celebrate the joys of working outside together. Every day is unique. I am continually learning new things and building new skills. I enjoy interacting with people in nature whether it be on the trails or through events such as Maple Syrup in the Park or Fishing Derbies.

— Alyssa, Lead Hand, Conservation Parks
