We’re Developing New Strategies
We will be working on six strategies and plans to comply with the changes to the Conservation Authorities Act. All Conservation Authorities are required to complete the following strategies and plans:
- Conservation Area Strategy
- Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy
- Land Inventory
- Flood and Erosion Infrastructure Operational Plan
- Flood and Erosion Infrastructure Asset Management Plan
- Ice Management Plan
In 2024, we’re initiating development on the Conservation Area Strategy and the Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy.
Conservation Areas Strategy
We’re updating our Conservation Areas Strategy and seeking public feedback on the priorities for CVC-owned and managed lands.
With your input, our existing strategy, Conservation Areas Master Strategy (2018-2028), will be updated to reflect new requirements under the Conservation Authorities Act, as well as the priority actions of the new CVC Strategic Plan 2023-2027, Our Future Together.
We’ll also be integrating the feedback that our partners, rightsholders, stakeholders and visitors have already provided to us about the conservation area system through engagement with CVC over the past five years.
About our Conservation Areas
We own 7,000 acres (2,800 hectares) of conservation land in the Credit River Watershed. These large greenspaces have been acquired to protect natural and cultural heritage and to offer sustainable recreation and nature-based experiences to residents and visitors.
Many of CVC’s publicly accessible conservation areas are popular destinations, and CVC has welcomed over 1,000,000 visitors to these lands in 2023. Review a map of our major conservation areas and learn more about conservation lands planning and management.
Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy
We’re in the process of developing a Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy (Watershed Strategy) which is a requirement of Ontario Regulation 686/21.
The Watershed Strategy will align with and incorporate key components of CVC’s key guiding documents including our recently completed Strategic Plan 2023-2027, Our Future Together and the forthcoming Credit River Watershed Plan.
As per the regulation, the Watershed Strategy must include the following:
- Guiding principles and objectives.
- A summary of existing technical studies, monitoring programs and other information.
- A review of mandatory programs and services.
- Process for periodic review and update of the strategy.
