Connect with Nature while Learning English Language Skills
We offer presentations that help adult English language learners understand local environmental issues. Presentations help students learn English vocabulary and improve comprehension and pronunciation.
Our environmental educators can come to your class or provide virtual presentations. We can also host your class for these presentations.
We provide vocabulary sheets, detailed lesson plans and in-class activities in advance.
We are offering our workshops virtually and in-person.
Climate change impacts everyone around the world. Participants will learn about the causes and effects of climate change and global warming. They will also be encouraged to take climate change action. Virtural presentations are available for this topic.
Better physical health. Increased productivity. Improved immunity. Accelerated healing. We can realize real physical health benefits by visiting parks and natural environments. Participants will learn about local natural areas and habitats. They will experience the health and wellness benefits of nature and be inspired to get outdoors.
Invasive species are plants and animals that are not native to an area. Participants will learn about invasive species found in the Credit River Watershed, their harmful impacts and strategies to help stop the spread.
A pollinator is an animal that moves pollen from the male part of a flower to the female part of a flower, allowing the flower to reproduce. Pollinators are an integral part of our natural ecosystem. They play a crucial role in providing us with healthy crops and flowering plant species. Participants will learn about how climate change, exposure to pesticides and habitat loss are affecting our pollinators. They will also learn how they can help create pollinator habitat.
The Great Lakes are an important natural water resource. They hold immense cultural significance for Canada. Participants will learn about this freshwater ecosystem. They will also learn about the environmental issues that impact the health of the Great Lakes.
This presentation encourages participants to connect with nature and maintain social distancing during COVID. Learn about the mental and physical benefits of connecting with nature and discover news ways to appreciate nature close to home.
Experience Nature Tour
We can add an Experience Nature tour to any of our presentations for adult English language learners. Spend time in nature at Terra Cotta Conservation Area, guided by our environmental educators. We explore nature on ability-appropriate trails, and develop confidence in participants to explore nature on their own.
