We are excited to announce the launch of the Fletchers Creek SNAP Neighbourhood Guide – a pocket-guide featuring a handy neighbourhood map of local natural assets such as natural areas, parks, the creek and trails. This Guide was inspired by community members like you who have expressed continued interest in learning about and discovering local natural areas and exciting projects close to home.
The Guide was launched at Neighbourhood Nature – online events in June (pictured above). These events featured a special presentation from CVC’s Senior Coordinator of Multicultural Outreach, Ashoo Anand. Attendees learned new ways to celebrate, engage, and connect with nature for their mental and physical wellbeing. They also learned about the role trees and natural assets play in protecting us from the impacts of climate change. At these events, local residents came together and shared their personal encounters with neighbourhood nature, most of which were centered around observing local birds and plants. A few residents also shared stories of Fletchers Creek SNAP’s resident snapping turtle and her newly laid eggs! Laura Bowman has uploaded images of this rare, beautiful animal on iNaturalist here and here.
A printed version of the Guide has been mailed to all residents and businesses of the Fletchers Creek SNAP neighbourhood and is available online thanks to funding from the Greenbelt Foundation.
