Cultivating Collaboration on Rented Farmland
November 13 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Learn How Farmers and Agricultural Landowners Can Develop Beneficial Relationships
This event aims to support both farmers who rent farmland and their landowners. By working together, we can have sustainable win-wins for farmland.
Renting can be tough. High rental costs and not knowing if you can stay long-term can make it hard for farmers to make investments for long-term environmental and economic sustainability. Landowners may also worry about letting others manage their property. In our area, more and more farmland is being rented, so it's important to solve these issues. Join us for some practical ideas based on real farm experience.
Presentations from:
Bruce Kelly from Farm and Foodcare Ontario will deliver a presentation on tools and strategies that both landowners and farmers can use to build effective, long-term and trusting relationships. A long-term management plan is essential for soil health, benefiting farmers, landowners and the natural environment.
Karen Hutchinson from Albion Hills Community Farm is an expert in transitioning food systems to sustainability, and working at the intersection of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to find innovative solutions and transition pathways. She will facilitate a panel discussion of local farmers and landowners on how they have overcome farmland rental challenges.
