In the Making: Cooksville SNAP Draft Action Plan

Credit Valley Conservation in partnership with the City of Mississauga and Peel Region are excited to reveal the Cooksville Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP) Draft Action Plan with the community.

Share Your Feedback

We invite residents, workers, neighbours and visitors in the Cooksville SNAP neighbourhood to share their feedback with us. We want input on the proposed vision, goals and actions to create a healthier and climate ready community.

Some of the proposed actions focus on:

  • Access to fresh food
  • Safe walking and cycling
  • Increasing time in nature
  • Beautifying commercial areas
  • Managing stormwater

Successful Open House Events

We also sought feedback at our June Cooksville SNAP Open House at Mississauga Valley Community Centre. Over 60 residents and community members, along with 25 representatives from local organizations, came together to share ideas, make conversation and enjoy fun activities. We were glad to offer refreshments from local restaurants to participants while they browsed the information booths and provided their feedback.

While reviewing the draft Action Plan, residents learned about upcoming events and local programs in the neighbourhood. They also played games and tried out innovative gadgets from local community organizations, including:

Feedback Sets Priorities

Participants voted highly for the following actions:

  • Proposing harvesting rainwater
  • Managing stormwater runoff
  • Improving natural habitats for wildlife
  • Connecting trails
  • New trees, benches and lighting, specifically in locations vulnerable to pollution and extreme heat

Other feedback we received from the community expressed a desire for gardening and cooking workshops, sharing libraries for tools and equipment, along with “repair cafes”. Residents shared their interest in learning about incorporating fresh and diverse cultural ingredients which can contribute to a reduction in food waste.

We sincerely appreciate the residents, neighbours and community leaders who took the time to attend the open house and share their thoughts and stories. This input helps us draft a plan that better reflects everyone who lives, works or plays in the neighbourhood.
