Local community encouraged to attend Lakeview Waterfront Connection project open house and consultation
The Mississauga and Etobicoke Lakeshore communities are encouraged to attend a public meeting for the Lakeview Waterfront Connection project Environmental Assessment. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan 22 at the Mississauga Seniors’ Centre, 1389 Cawthra Rd, Mississauga.
The meeting will start at 4:30 with an open house. There will be a presentation at 7 p.m. and attendees will provide collective feedback during a facilitated break-out session from 7:45 to 9 p.m.
“This meeting is an opportunity for local residents to provide valued input into the design and development of green space in their neighbourhood,” said Rae Horst, Chief Administrative Officer, Credit Valley Conservation.
The Region of Peel and Credit Valley Conservation, with support from Toronto and Region Conservation and the City of Mississauga, are undertaking an environmental assessment to create a new natural waterfront park on the eastern Mississauga waterfront. The park will provide ecological habitat and enhanced public access to the lakeshore. The environmental assessment is in accordance with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The Lakeview Waterfront Connection (LWC) Project is an element of the Inspiration Lakeview initiative that was initiated in 2010.
On December 5, 2012, the Minister of the Environment approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the LWC Project. The approved ToR and all project background information can be viewed on the project webpage: www.creditvalleyca.ca/lwc.
The environmental assessment will be carried out according to the ToR and the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act. Results will be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment for review. When the environmental assessment is completed, the public and interested stakeholders will be informed when and where the environmental assessment can be reviewed.
Members of the public, agencies and interested stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the environmental assessment process by attending public meetings or contacting staff with information, comments or questions. This and other public consultation opportunities will be advertised on the project webpage, in local newspapers and through the project mailing list.
