Credit Valley Conservation is one of Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities dedicated to protecting, restoring and enhancing our local natural environment. We care for the Credit River, its streams and tributaries from the headwaters in Orangeville to the shores of Lake Ontario in Mississauga. Summary of Functions
Reporting to the Superintendent, a Crew Leader for Property Management (Grass/Landscaping) provides excellent customer service and assists with the implementation of the property management program on CVC’s land. Our focus is to provide well-kept and maintained trails/day-use areas for visitors of CVC managed properties. This position can expect to work mostly outdoors at various parks throughout the Credit River Watershed
Eligibility Requirements
- Must possess a valid “G2” or “G” driver’s license in good standing. Successful candidate must provide a MTO Driver’s Abstract
- Available to work Monday to Friday with occasional weekend shifts
- Experience operating a vehicle with a trailer attached
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Be able to work in adverse weather conditions
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public and staff
- Experience in operating and daily maintenance of equipment and machinery, e.g., riding mowers, grass trimmers, hand tools, utility vehicles etc.
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Summary of Major Tasks
- Supervise a grass/landscaping crew to carry out grass cutting operations in various Conservation Areas weekly
- Operate/maintain a variety of grass cutting equipment (ride-on lawnmowers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers, etc.)
- Regularly transport equipment to different sites using a truck/trailer using proper load tie-downs practices
- Carry out additional maintenance and operations in Conservation Areas, which could include but not limited to trail maintenance, grounds maintenance, dam maintenance, heavy lifting, carpentry and plumbing
- Assist with seasonal equipment changeover from winter to summer
- Ensure that work is conducted in a safe manner and that all CVC health and safety policies and procedures are always adhered to
- Maintain a good working relationship with staff, visitors, community groups and on-site operators
