Creating Wildlife Habitat

The safekeeping and well-being of wildlife habitat depend on the efforts of private landowners.  To help support, create and enhance wildlife habitat, landowners can:

  • limit disturbances and access to forested areas on their property;
  • expand forest size by planting native trees and shrubs to create travel corridors and food, to increase core woodland habitat and provide shelter and protection for wildlife;
  • consider the needs of wildlife before undertaking any projects on their property;
  • Schedule timber harvests carefully!

These smart forest management efforts will help sustain Ontario’s diminishing forest interior habitat, and bolster regional biodiversity and are part of a good forest management plan.
