Ontario’s Proposed Great Lakes Protection Act and Strategy

The Government of Ontario has released a Draft Great Lakes Protection Act and accompanying Great Lakes Protection Strategy that, if passed, would create new tools to help empower communities, and promote collaboration amongst the Great Lakes community to discuss priorities, share information, and develop initiatives. The Act would be accompanied by a new Great Lakes community action fund which would help support hundreds of local Great Lakes projects across Ontario.

The Province is encouraging public feedback on the draft strategy, and will accept comments until August 7, 2012.

The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River ecosystem purifies our water and air, breaks down our wastes, provides food sources and recreation opportunities, reduces the risks of flood damage and moderates extreme weather. Now is your opportunity to have your say in how we care for this precious natural resource.
