For Immediate Release

Monday, May 30, 2011 – Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) has launched a website to gather information about the Credit River’s remarkable legacy, to facilitate community awareness about why it deserves recognition as a Canadian Heritage River.

The website is www.creditourriver.ca. You will find information gathered during a community workshop held on April 2. The workshop attracted more than 100 people from community groups, environmental organizations, landowners, the business community, cultural organizations, municipal staff and our local politicians. The website also has interesting information about the Credit River, the Canadian Heritage Rivers System and a blog where people can share their stories about the Credit River.

“We need to build support from a wide range of stakeholders and participants within the Credit River community,” said Dave Beaton Supervisor, Community Outreach. “We are in the early stages of forming a community based advisory team to help guide the Credit River recognition process.”

People are encouraged to share their thoughts about what makes the Credit River so special and show support for continuing the process toward a heritage river designation. Over the next few months, a series of events will be held throughout the Credit River Watershed to gather people’s thoughts, views and knowledge about the Credit River.

“Please check out the new website www.creditourriver.ca, join the Facebook campaign, and help spread the word,” added Beaton. Call 905-670-1615, ext. 426, if your organization would like to have a presentation on the Credit River and/or the heritage river designation initiative.
