Belfountain Conservation Area is located on the Niagara Escarpment within the Town of Caledon. It is one of CVC’s oldest and best known conservation areas. The conservation area is 138 acres in size and includes three separate parcels:
- Belfountain Conservation Area
- Willoughby Property
- Cox Property
Belfountain Conservation Area is home to rare species and unique cultural heritage features. Management and visitation vary between the sites, but they are linked by common geography and natural features. Long-term management, as outlined through the Management Plan, will ensure that all features are protected and planned for in a meaningful way.
Why did CVC complete a Management Plan for Belfountain Conservation Area?
- protect and manage natural and cultural heritage,
- plan recreation programs,
- improve visitor-related infrastructure, and
- implement restoration and stewardship projects.
Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is a local conservation authority established by the Ontario government in 1954 to protect, restore and enhance the natural environment of the Credit River watershed. That watershed is the area of land where all rainfall, snowmelt and runoff drain into lands and waters flowing into the Credit River. CVC creates connections between people and nature, knowledge and action. It inspires a deep appreciation for the role of nature in keeping people connected, healthy and happy. CVC is a member of Conservation Ontario.
