Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is looking for volunteers to help remove invasive plants and maintain trails and gardens at Willow Park Ecology Centre (WPEC) on Saturday Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon. WPEC is located off Mary Street on Hwy. 7 in Norval, west of Brampton and east of Georgetown. This event is suitable for all ages and is a great opportunity for students to earn community service hours while learning about ecology.

“Maintaining green spaces like Willow Park has a big impact on the air we breathe, the water we drink and the land we share,” said Mike Puddister, Director of Restoration and Stewardship for CVC. “This is an opportunity for families to get outside, connect with nature and do their part for the local environment.”

CVC has been partnering with WPEC for more than a decade on many successful rehabilitation projects. As landowner of the property, CVC supports Willow Park’s commitment to habitat restoration and the innovative approaches that this active community group brings to their work.

Willow Park, a former trailer park converted into a naturalized green space, is situated in the Credit River floodplain bounded by Silver Creek and the main Credit River, a vital location to the health of the Credit River. The centre provides an important and accessible demonstration area for wetland restoration, wildlife enhancement, alternative gardening designs, and a wide variety of other ecological concepts that benefit the urban population that surround the park.

Conservation Authorities are a provincial/municipal partnership. CVC was established by an act of the province in 1954 with a mandate to protect all natural resources other than minerals in the area drained by the Credit River. We have been working for over 50 years with our partner municipalities and stakeholders to protect and enhance the natural environment of the Credit River Watershed for present and future generations.
