Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) the City of Mississauga and the Sierra Club of Peel Region invite residents and community partners to a tree planting event on Saturday Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at Meadowvale Conservation Area, 1081 Old Derry Road West, Mississauga, at the end of Second Line just north of Old Derry Road.

Participants will plant native trees and shrubs to increase forest cover in the park. Trees beautify the park, improve air quality and provide habitat for local wildlife.

“This is an opportunity for families to get outside, connect with nature and do their part for the local environment,” said Mike Puddister, Director of Restoration and Stewardship for CVC. “With the cold weather closing in, there are only a few days left in the planting season.”

No planting experience is needed. CVC staff will provide tree planting demonstrations.

Students are encouraged to participate and earn their community volunteer hours.

Participants should dress for the weather and wear long pants and safety boots if possible. Shovels and gloves are provided but extras would be helpful. Light refreshments and snacks will be offered after the tree planting.

Those interested in participating must register by contacting Lindsey Jennings, Assistant Program Coordinator of Community Outreach for CVC at 905-670-1615 ext. 445 or [email protected].

Conservation Authorities are a provincial/municipal partnership. CVC was established by an act of the province in 1954 with a mandate to protect all natural resources other than minerals in the area drained by the Credit River. We have been working for almost 60 years with our partner municipalities and stakeholders to protect and enhance the natural environment of the Credit River Watershed for present and future generations. CVC is a member of Conservation Ontario.
