Residents are encouraged to get out and be inspired by nature at the fifth annual Seniors Day at Island Lake Conservation Area, Wednesday, June 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is hosted by the Friends of Island Lake (FOIL) as part of the upcoming Orangeville 2018 Seniors Week, running from June 11 to 16.
“This event gives seniors an opportunity to get out and enjoy nature at Island Lake,” said Mike Walker, Chair of FOIL. “Last year many visitors enjoyed a tour of the Memorial Forest. Our goal is to make sure more people in the community continue to enjoy the park regardless of mobility levels.”
Seniors, age 55 and over, along with their companions will receive free admission to Island Lake Conservation Area. Visitors can explore scenic trails around the park on an accessbile wagon and enjoy entertainment at the amphitheatre. There will be a photo booth with props for visitors to take pictures. Refreshments will be served.
Visitors are asked to enter through the main gates at 673067 Hurontario Street South. This event is held in partnership between Credit Valley Conservation and FOIL, with sponsorship from Avalon Retirement Lodge and M&M Food Market.
The amphitheatre is the newest feature at the park, with construction of the performance stage completed in 2015. The round roof added last summer provides neighbours and the community with a unique outdoor cultural space.
Seniors Day at Island Lake Conservation Area runs rain or shine. For more information or group bookings call Jane Lightle at 519-940-0774.
Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) is a local conservation authority established by the Ontario government in 1954 to protect, restore and enhance the natural environment of the Credit River watershed. That watershed is the area of land where all rainfall, snowmelt and runoff drain into lands and waters flowing into the Credit River. CVC creates connections between people and nature, knowledge and action. It inspires a deep appreciation for the role of nature in keeping people connected, healthy and happy. CVC is a member of Conservation Ontario.
