Summary of Functions

Reporting to the Senior Planner, this position provides excellent client services through the support and assistance to the Planning and Development Services department.  This position requires interaction and communication with internal and external clients, including responding to general public inquiries on CVC policies and regulation, and reviewing minor development and permit applications watershed-wide.

Eligibility Requirements

  • University degree in Land Use / Environmental Planning or related field
  • Candidate membership in OPPI an asset with the intent of becoming Full member
  • 1 year of related experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of the provincial planning legislation including the Planning Act, Conservation Authorities Act and Environmental Assessment Act.
  • Knowledge of the planning process – including watershed planning, natural heritage system planning and natural hazard management principles.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and drawings.
  • Understanding of watershed planning, natural hazard management, and environmental resource management.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project PowerPoint)
  • Excellent teamwork and client centric customer service skills, including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Able to work in a collaborative work environment with a passion for sharing knowledge and ideas with others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain rules and procedures clearly to the public.

Summary of Major Tasks

  • Review properties to establish Regulatory Limit and file history
  • Prepare due diligence letters for potential property purchases as requested by realtors, property owners and lawyers
  • Review and provide comments on minor proposed development
  • Conduct site visits with technical staff to confirm feature limits and what additional information may be required to inform a decision
  • Determine if the proposed works require a permit
  • Review of proposed minor works through permit application
  • Attend/provide preliminary comments on site plan during pre-consultation
  • Provide formal comments to municipalities on minor development applications based on CVC policies, regulation and provincial policies
  • Process requests for CVC data from consultants
  • Create Data Sharing Agreement and send to consultant to be signed and returned
  • Release data to consultant once received from technical staff
  • Provide information and advice to watershed residents, general public and prospective property purchasers, developers etc. regarding various CVC policies and programs affecting land use control and how they are applied

Vaccine Policy

New employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the Ministry of Health as a condition of employment and must have satisfied the full post vaccination period required to ensure vaccination efficacy. The requirement to be fully vaccinated is subject to the Ontario Human Rights Code.  If you are not fully vaccinated, a documented medical reason provided by a physician or registered nurse and time period for the medical reason may be accepted.
