Summary of Functions

This position will provide assistance in the development and implementation of programs and projects that further the Water and Climate Change Science Team objectives in the area of stormwater management and watershed restoration. The successful candidate is flexible, innovative and able to deliver on multiple initiatives in a fast and dynamic team environment.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or have completed post-secondary education in water resources, environmental sciences, or related discipline
  • Solid background in water quality, hydrology and water resources
  • Experience in stormwater quality and quantity monitoring
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to convey technical data in reports, summaries and oral presentations
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Other key abilities include: multi-tasking, organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Team player with experience working with multiple stakeholders

Summary of Major Tasks

  • Conduct water resources field monitoring of innovative stormwater management facilities and pollution prevention
  • Operate and maintain hydrologic and water quality monitoring equipment such as flow loggers, automated water samplers, water quality probes, temperature loggers and meteorological equipment
  • Responsible for the collection, organization and analysis of water quality and quantity data
  • Conduct statistical analysis of water quality and quantity data including data quality control and assurance
  • Required to work outside in the field including willingness and ability to work in adverse weather conditions and after hours as needed
  • Assist with the creation and review of fact sheets, bulletins and technical reports for technical audiences and the general public
  • Conduct day-to-day office tasks such as report writing and review, attend meetings, and assist with other tasks as required
  • Conduct maintenance of innovative stormwater management facilities including record keeping and maintaining database of results, as well as assist with property owner surveys

The Assistant, Water Resources will be exposed to water balance and water quality concepts and processes occurring in the watershed. This will include valuable water quality and quantity monitoring skills developed on innovative stormwater management facilities and pollution prevention sites. The candidate will also gain experience in the development of data analysis skills including water quality and quantity statistical analysis.

Vaccine Policy

New employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the Ministry of Health as a condition of employment and must have satisfied the full post vaccination period required to ensure vaccination efficacy.
