Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, Community Outreach, this position will support CVC’s Community Outreach team, particularly the Conservation Youth Corps, Branch Out, and Site Assessment programs.

Working closely with the Senior Coordinator, and Coordinator, this position will support the Conservation Youth Corps summer program by providing administrative support, organizing and maintaining equipment, assisting with environmental stewardship and restoration work. The successful candidate will assist Crew Leaders and act as a mentor to crews of high school volunteers during the program.

This position will also support the Program Assistant, Community Outreach with the site assessment program. The successful candidate will assist with data collection at planting sites using our site assessment protocol, as well as supporting the maintenance including watering, pruning & weeding.

In addition, this position will support all Community Outreach programs with tasks like setting up for events and supporting restoration projects, as well as office tasks including data entry and management, volunteer communications, and general support.

Candidates should have an interest in nature and the environment, experience with public speaking, a positive attitude, and be well organized. The Assistant is expected to partake in strenuous outdoor work, traversing uneven terrain in potentially adverse weather conditions. This role requires the candidate to work on a close-knit team, but also independently at times.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Studying at a university/college in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art Math, or Business
  • Enrolled in a university or college co-op program
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or have Refugee status
  • Valid Class ‘G’ driver’s license and a clean Driver’s Abstract (condition of employment)
  • Police reference check with vulnerable sector screening (condition of employment)
  • Able to work outdoors in adverse weather and physically demanding conditions
  • Tree and shrub identification skills considered an asset
  • First Aid & CPR (AED C) considered an asset

Summary of Major Tasks

  • Support tree planting assessment and maintenance, including species ID and watering
  • Load, prepare, and maintain equipment and materials
  • Assist with stewardship and restoration projects
  • Mentor youth volunteers in a positive work environment
  • Support CVC staff and community partners at stewardship events
  • Assist with data entry, QA/QC, and database management
  • Communicate program details with youth volunteers and parents
  • Assist with photo and file management
  • Other duties as assigned
