Reporting to the Manager, Natural Heritage Management this position’s primary focus will be helping to develop and coordinate a multi-disciplinary team developing and implementing an ecohydrology program and assist with the development of ecological restoration plans and associated guidelines. An ideal candidate would be an ecologist with a strong understanding of ecohydrology, wetland and watercourse hydrology, and ecosystem restoration principles, issues and practices
- Post Secondary education in ecology, biology, ecohydrology, restoration ecology, geography, environmental studies, physical sciences or related field.
- Minimum 4 yrs. experience related to the primary tasks and functions of the position.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ecohydrology, natural heritage system management and planning, ecosystem restoration, field assessment protocols (e.g. Ecological Land Classification), impact assessment and mitigation techniques.
- Familiarity and ability to research topics related to climate change vulnerability & adaptation, natural heritage planning and biodiversity management.
- Good working knowledge of statistical data analysis.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the production and review of technical science-based documents.
- Ability to research and report on topical scientific issues. The ability to qualify as an expert witness at Planning hearings or publish in peer-reviewed academia is an asset.
- Supervisory experience is an asset.

- Willing and able to work in some adverse field conditions including on steep and even terrain, in watercourses and wetlands, inclement weather, insects and water hazards in a safe manner.
Summary of Major TasksPerform the following tasks under direction:
- Coordinate the development of an ecohydrology program focusing on wetlands and streams with associated project staff
- Installation, maintenance, and monitoring of hydrologic equipment in wetlands, streams and on adjacent lands.
- Provide ecology support to watershed restoration programs in the development of restoration plans, tools and guidelines.
- Provide ecology support and contribute to the writing and development of strategies, plans and tools to guide the management and restoration of the Natural Heritage System of the Credit River Watershed.
- Stay up to date, lead or contribute to scientific project design and applied research and tool development.
- Conduct in-field activities, data analysis, integrated site assessments and impact analyses; develop land use planning and management tools; make recommendations to resource management, program and policy implementation and information transfer.
- Work on project teams with staff from other conservation authority programs.
- Administrative tasks include work plans and scheduling, data and file management, produce science-based reports and related communications, project-related budgets and health and safety.
- May be required to train, develop and supervise technicians or assistants as required.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships as a representative of CVC to external government and non-government agencies, research institutions, consultants, businesses, media and the public while ensuring privacy and confidentiality.
- Prepare and present key reports to Conservation Authority staff and external contacts at workshops and conferences.
- Assist with the preparation of proposals to secure external funding opportunities.
- Anticipated Start and End Dates: February 2021 – December 16, 2022 (35 hours/week)
Salary starting at: $70,673 - $84,133
