Responsible for assisting with invasive species management field work and data collection in support of the Invasive Species Program within Terrestrial Restoration Management under the direction of a Technician, Invasive Species Management.

This position works out of the Warwick office located at 15526 Heart Lake Road in Caledon.


Eligibility Requirements

  • Completion of a post-secondary program such as botany, forestry, biology, environmental science, natural resource management or horticulture.
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license.  The successful applicant will be required to provide an MTO Driver’s Abstract.
  • Field work experience necessary. Ability to work under inclement conditions (i.e.: bugs and weather).
  • Previous experience supervising field staff.
  • Good flora and fauna identification skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Access and Database population.
  • Knowledge and experience with ESRI software and GIS.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Experience with tractors, ATVs, and pesticide application equipment.
  • Invasive species identification skills are an asset.
  • Certification as a licensed pesticide applicator an asset.
  • Certification in chainsaw operation an asset.
  • Experience leading and directing volunteer events an asset.

Summary of Major Tasks

  • Under direction, lead a small field crew in the removal, mapping, and monitoring of invasive plant species on CVC properties throughout the Credit River Watershed.
  • Site orientation using aerial imagery and tablets.
  • Field identification of tree, shrub and herbaceous plants. Sampling and collection of specimens may also be required.
  • Use of removal, sampling, and measurement equipment (ATV, brush saws, backpack sprayers, tablets, GPS units).
  • Ability to work weekends when needed and in a variety of outdoor conditions.
  • Responsible for the organization of data records and entry of data into MS Access database.
  • Assist with organization and staging of volunteer workdays and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information

Anticipated Start and End Dates: April 12, 2021 – November 26, 2021 (35 hours/week)    

Salary starting at: $19.75 per hour
