DESCRIPTION:Help Remove Invasive Plants!\n\n\n\nJoin us to help control the spread of invasive plants in Tanners Drive Woodlot. Participants will help remove invasive plants that are impacting the survival of native plants and animals. These actions help restore habitat for our native wildlife to survive and allow a more diverse ecosystem to thrive. \n\n\n\nWe will use tools such as shovels and extractigators to remove small and medium-sized invasive shrubs like buckthorn and honeysuckle. \n\n\n\nThanks to our friends at the Rotary Club of Acton for rolling up their sleeves\, bringing volunteers together to make a difference\, and keeping everyone fueled by providing cookies! \n\n\n\nHelp make the Acton SNAP neighbourhood more sustainable and ready for a changing climate. This event is part of Acton Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP). \n\n\n\nLocation:\n\n\n\nMeet us at Tanners Drive Park. Parking is available Acton Arena. \n\n\n\nWhat to Wear and Bring:\n\n\n\n\nFor your safety\, wear a hat\, long pants\, long socks and closed-toe shoes.\n\n\n\nThis is a rain-or-shine event. Parking is available on local side streets such as Spinnaker Cir. Please pay attention to parking signage. \n\n\n\nWhat to Wear and Bring:\n\n\n\n\nFor your safety\, wear a hat\, long pants\, long socks and closed-toe shoes.\n\n\n\nThis is a rain-or-shine event. DESCRIPTION:Remove invasive buckthorn and repurpose into a wooden witches’ broomsticks for Halloween\n\n\n\nJoin us to help control the spread of invasive plants in Georgetown. Participants will help remove invasive plants that are impacting the survival of native plants and animals. These actions help restore habitat for our native wildlife to survive and allow a more diverse ecosystem to thrive. \n\n\n\nWitches’ Broomstick Craft: After removing invasive plants\, participants will repurpose the harvested buckthorn into their own wooden witches’ broomstick – just in time for Halloween! CVC staff will lead a step-by-step demonstration\, and all materials will be provided. Prioritizing soil health reduces the risk of drought\, flooding\, erosion\, and runoff\, improves water quality and increases resiliency to climate change. \n\n\n\nJoin members of the agricultural community for a free information session exploring practical approaches to soil health management. Enjoy a catered buffet while hearing from agricultural experts about the importance of best management practices for soil health\, soil health assessment plans\, and results from CVC’s innovative new hotspot identification tool for soil erosion (HITs) on farms in the Credit River Watershed. \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters\n\n\n\nHolly Shipclark\, Senior Coordinator\, Agricultural Extension\, Credit Valley Conservation (CVC)\n\n\n\nHolly will share an overview of our new Watershed Plan. She’ll present insights into how we’re partnering with private landowners to help implement the plan and protect watershed health for generations to come. Some of the innovative approaches that CVC is using to support landowners and advance watershed health across the Credit River Watershed\, including new modelling tools and soil health extension\, will also be highlighted. \n\n\n\nKristian Stephens\, Coordinator\, Agricultural Extension\, Credit Valley Conservation\n\n\n\nKristian will present results from soil assessments conducted on farms across Halton Region. He’ll share his analysis of Soil Health Assessment and Plan (SHAP) testing results and connecting soil health data to field practices. He’ll also highlight key findings and share practical recommendations and resources to help farmers improve soil health. \n\n\n\nJake Munroe\, Soil Management Specialist\, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture\, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA)\n\n\n\nJake will share information about SHAP\, a mobile and web-based tool created by OMAFA to help evaluate field practices\, benchmark soil health and track improvements over time. \n\n\n\nRuth Knight\, Organic Consultant\, Ontario Certified Crop Advisor Association\n\n\n\nRuth will provide a practical introduction to soil health\, helping farmers understand what their soil health results mean in the context of farm productivity.
