Webinar – Making LID inspection and maintenance (I&M) cheaper and easier by design
Thursday, November 22, 2018
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
*This webinar is run through the STEP program
Integrating Low Impact Development (LID) approaches to stormwater management into new and existing urban areas can increase the resiliency of our communities and receiving waters to the extreme weather patterns that are anticipated in a changing climate. But operationalizing an LID approach requires municipalities and property managers to develop their capacity to inspect and maintain best management practices (BMPs) that most have little or no experience with.
The long-term performance of LID BMPs is contingent upon proper inspection and maintenance. Designing LID BMPs with ease of inspection and maintenance in mind is critical to the affordability of stormwater asset management programs and must be considered during design and approval processes. Design practitioners with a thorough understanding of LID inspection and maintenance processes and requirements can create more practical and effective designs that are easier and cheaper to operate.
This webinar will provide an overview of the types of inspection and maintenance activities that need to be carried out on LID BMPs and will identify design considerations that can have a significant impact on long term operation needs and costs including inlet design, pre-treatment devices, monitoring wells, access routes and ports, planting plan design, plant selection, seasonal considerations and predictive approaches to optimizing routine work. Additional recommendations will be presented to help practitioners streamline inspection and maintenance activities, optimize routine work and minimize program costs.
