Thursday, May 30, 2019

8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Heritage Hall at Purple Woods Conservation Area , Oshawa (View Map)

$150 CAD

Instructors: Kyle Vander Linden (CVC), Stephanie Wilson (CVC) and Jen Hill (TRCA)
Description

Construction, certification, inspection and maintenance all play a pivotal role in long-term function of bioretention facilities. Failing to follow proper processes can result in barren landscapes, clogged practices, and ultimately costly post-construction repairs. This one-day hands-on course will provide participants with practical skills that will help ensure functional bioretention practices.

Using the bioretention facility at Purple Woods Conservation Area as a case study, participants will review key processes for construction, certification, inspection and maintenance. During the second half of the day, participants will have the opportunity to apply their learning through a series of in-field inspection and maintenance activities.

Learning Objectives:
1. Apply key principles of LID construction to bioretention practices
2. Summarize certification protocols and routine maintenance processes for bioretention practices
3. Practice field testing methods commonly used for certification, operation and maintenance of bioretention practices
4. Analyze and interpret field testing results
