On Saturday, Sept. 22, citizens across the country will be slipping into their rubber boots and filling garbage bags to do their part to improve the health of streams and shorelines in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup (GCSC).

Locally, creek cleanups are being organized by Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) and the Credit Valley Conservation Foundation (CVCF) at seven sites in the Credit River Watershed. Three cleanups are being organized in Orangeville (Island Lake Conservation Area, Middle Monora Creek and Mill Creek) with Orangeville’s Coldwater Conservation Challenge (C3) being the lead host at the Mill Creek site.

Orangeville C3 is an initiative of The Greg Clark Chapter of Trout Unlimited Canada, Izaac Walton Fly Fishing Club, CVC and Town of Orangeville to improve the quantity and quality of cold water in the headwaters of the Credit River. The partners of C3 are encouraging all local residents to join them this Saturday to help improve the health of Mill Creek, or whichever creek cleanup is happening closest to your home.

The Orangeville Lions Club will be hosting a free barbecue at Island Lake Conservation Area after the cleanup for all volunteers participating in the Orangeville area.

All cleanups begin at 9 a.m. Volunteers can get more information and register online at:

GCSC is a grassroots conservation program that promotes understanding and education about shoreline litter and water issues by engaging Canadians to restore shoreline areas by cleaning them up. The program is a conservation initiative of the Vancouver Aquarium and the World Wildlife Fund and calls upon Canadians to become better environmental citizens.
