Andrew Golobic

It’s no secret that we’re passionate about the environment. We’re in the community, holding workshops and greening our neighbourhoods. We wouldn’t be able to accomplish all the work we do without the dedication and support of our amazing volunteers. Over 5,600 community volunteers dedicate their time, skills and passion to protect and restore our natural environment. One volunteer who deserves a special mention is Andrew Golobic.

Andrew always had a green thumb. Apart from his full-time role as a Finance Associate at TD Canada Trust, he fills much of his spare time volunteering for environmental causes.

Andrew started volunteering with us in 2012. As a resident of Mississauga’s Clarkson community he often visited Rattray Marsh Conservation Area. “I love the marsh,” noted Andrew. “It’s so close to where I live and it’s such a diverse ecosystem. I love the trails, the tranquility and of course the natural shingle beach along the waterfront.”

In April 2012, Andrew took part in the annual Rattray Marsh Clean-up, organized by the Rattray Marsh Protection Association and CVC. “It was a big event that focused on cleaning up a large portion of the marsh. It was great to work alongside new faces and make a sizeable impact in my community.”

Andrew’s passion for protecting the natural environment grew. In 2012 he volunteered over 40 hours with CVC on a variety of projects and events. This grew to over 90 hours in 2013. “My favourite volunteer programs are invasive species removal and tree planting. I enjoying helping with the leadership aspect of these events.”

Andrew was awarded for his outstanding efforts with an Award of Distinction at CVC’s Conservation Awards in March of 2013. He is gearing up for another big year and has a busy spring of events ahead of him.

When asked why he keeps volunteering with CVC:

I enjoy being outdoors and I want to protect our rivers, streams and conservation areas for the others to enjoy as well. I also like to take part in community events and CVC’s event calendar is a great way to choose when and where I can volunteer. The staff at CVC are great. They give me opportunities to lead events. They’re very appreciative of the time and effort I put in.

We’re not the only ones who benefit from Andrew’s altruism. Organizations like TD Canada Trust, Starbucks and even his condo building benefit from his willing spirit and drive to help his community.

Every once in a while real heroes emerge form the community. They work tirelessly to make life better for their neighbours. Andrew Golobic is a true environmental hero. The impact he makes is seen every day. We are inspired by his commitment and enthusiasm to help the environment.
