Get Hooked on Ice Fishing at Island Lake

If you’re looking for a way to ‘reely’ impress your friends and family, come show off your skills at the annual Island Lake Ice Fishing Derby. Get hooked on the competition and join in some frosty fun. The Derby returns with exciting new categories and prizes running from February 10 to 19.

Savour the season and enjoy a traditional winter sport at this family-friendly event. Rod rentals, live bait and ice holes are available. Don’t miss the opportunity to compete, with up to $2,500 in cash prizes up for grabs. Entries received by noon February 9 are eligible for the early bird prize.

You won’t have to fish for compliments with a trophy in your hands. ‘Big Catch’ prizes will be awarded for the longest Northern pike, Black crappie and Yellow perch. Child Derby Prizes will be given to the top three longest registered fish, of any species (in millimeters).

A valid Ontario fishing license is required to participate in the derby, except during the Ontario Family Fishing Weekend, from February 17 to 19. Call ahead to reserve your ice hut don’t flounder on the chance to join in the great family fun. Entry is $35/adult and $10/child (up to 12 years of age). Register for both the summer bass derby and winter ice fishing derby to receive 25% off. Space is limited, so act quickly.
