It was a big night for the Conservation Youth Corps. We were honoured with a Green Champion Award from Ecosource at last night’s awards ceremony.

For those that don’t know, the Conservation Youth Corps (CYC) is our youth engagement program. High school student participate in environmental stewardship activities and earn community volunteer hours.

Throughout the summer, 113 CYC youth volunteers worked tirelessly to maintain the Ecosource Community Gardens in Mississauga. Some lucky volunteers even got to harvest produce, which was all donated to the Eden Community Food Bank.

What they got was a large haul of garlic, potatos and eggplant. CYC volunteers also planted lettuce, peas, spinach, cabbage, onions and leeks.

CYC volunteers contributed a total of 565 volunteer hours to the Ecosource Community Gardens in 2012.

In total, there were twenty award winners at last night’s ceremony. The auditorium was packed with the who’s who of the environmental community of Mississauga.

We want to thank Ecosource for recognizing us last night and for their ongoing commitment to protecting the local environment.
